The Swat Valley is of great interest to pracitioners in Tibetan Buddhism because this valley, which used to be called Uddiyana, was the birthplace and place where Padmasambhava, who helped found Buddhism in Tibet, recieved many of his teachings along with many other great Buddhist practitioners. Tucci has collected number accounts of pilgrims who visited the Swat Valley of the years. Unforntuantely, with the Moslem invasion of Pakastan, most of the Buddhist temples were destroyed.
