Tilopa (989-1069 CD) was the Indian mystic who is considered the "founder" of the Kagyu lineage. He passed many teachings and practices on to Naropa who then passed them on to Marpa who brought them to Tibet. This teaching is his famous Mahamudra teaching which he gave on the banks of the Ganges river in India is one of the earliest texts we have on Mahamudra meditation. Thrangu Rinpoche gives a detailed commentary on this spiritual song, or doha. Shambhala Pubications will be publishing these teachings in book form later this year.
