Chenrezig or Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit is the most popular deity in Tibetan Buddhism. For over a 1,000 years Tibetan Lamas have used the Chenrezig practice to develop love and compassion. Love and compassion are the centerpiece of any Buddhist practice and the development of bodhichitta. The practice is very easy to do and, in fact, all the school age children recite this practice at the end of their day in Thrangu Rinpoche’s elementary school.
Several famous great Tibetan masters such as the Dalai Lama and the Karmapa are so close and involved in this practice that they are considered to be emanation of Chenrezig. And many far and wide outside Tibet have heard Chenrezig’s famous mantra: OM MANI PEDME HUM.
If you go to the Photo section of this website, there are two high-quality, copyright-free photos of thangkas of Chenrezig. These are of Chenrezig alone and one with Chenrezig and the Five Wisdom Buddhas.
