Gampopa (1079-1153) is well-known for merging into one river of Dharma the Kadampa lineage of Atisha with the Mahamudra lineage that he received from Milarepa. The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is a graded path of the Buddhist path covering a vast number of Buddhist concepts from the sutra path up to the Mahamudra path of direct examination of the mind. This makes it one of the primary texts for all Kagyu students.
